The aims of this paper is to organize color words in literary Manchu. By referring to Manchu dictionaries, we organized color words that share similar colors, and searched for basic color words.

The five groups of basic color words in Manchu are as follows.

yellow: suwayan, sohon; red: fulgiyan, fulahūn, jamu; white: šanggiyan ~ šanyan, šahūn, šeyen; green: niowanggiyan, niohon; black: sahaliyan, sahahūn, yacin

The following two groups of Manchu color words appear to have been recognized later than the groups of basic color words. However, they have gradually weighed as importantly as the basic ones.

purple: šušu, fahala; indigo: lamun

Secondary color words, such as misuru, nioboro, fulenggi boco, haksan, soboro, fulaburu etc. is created when basic colors are combined. Tertiary color words, such as suhun, guweciheri, giyen lamun etc. is created when secondary colors combine with basic color words.
